Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSME/S)

Beating Eggs

According to the American Association of Diabetes Educators, DSME is defined as “a collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions.”​​

Program Benefits

  • Adds skills that help individuals manage their diabetes

  • Medicare helps cover the cost of participation

Program Goals 

  • Encourages the following seven self-care behaviors to empower participants to be able to manage their health effectively:

    • Healthy eating

    • Being active

    • Monitoring

    • Taking medication

    • Problem solving

    • Healthy coping

    • Reducing risks
