Get outside!

Explore Berkeley County Trails and Walking Paths

Healthy Berkeley received a Take Back Our Health Grant from WVU College of Physical Activity and Sport Science and the WV Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health, Division of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease.  The funding is part of the Center for Active WV, whose vision is to increase physical activity levels of both children and adults…to improve the health and quality of life of all West Virginians.

Get outdoors for better health. Studies show spending time outdoors seems to have benefits for physical and mental health. Benefits can include:

  • Increased Vitamin D levels.  Vitamin D has a protective affect against osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease and can boost your immune system.

  • Increased activity level. Getting outdoors gets you away from electronics and being sedentary.  Children are more than doubly active when they are outside.

  • Improved mood.  Light tends to elevate mood.  Exercising in nature is good for your mental health.

Where can you take a walk, run or hike locally?

Healthy Berkeley has put together a list of tracks and trails in Berkeley County.  Also, funded by this grant, is a new trail map and markers at the Martinsburg Berkeley County Parks and Recreation Poor House Farm Park (to be installed summer of 2020).

Check out the trails on the map below:
